Indiana Med Spa Compliance

Indiana spent years as a state with no med spa statute at all, and that changed in 2026. Governor Mike Braun signed Senate Bill 282 on March 5, 2026, adding a new chapter to the Indiana Code that regulates medical spas by name — most provisions effective July 1, 2026, with registration required under the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana beginning January 1, 2027. Indiana now has one of the few med spa statutes in the country, and it sits on top of the licensing framework that was already there: the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA) administers the boards, the Medical Licensing Board governs physicians and physician assistants, the Indiana State Board of Nursing governs APRNs, RNs, and LPNs, and the Indiana State Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners decides what an esthetician or cosmetologist may do to skin before the work becomes medicine.
